The Group Tour & Student Group Tour Markets are a great place to be involved for seasoned veteran sales managers as well as newbies just trying to figure this fun, long lasting, memorable market out. Writing this while traveling from NTA held in magnificent Milwaukee and now going to Lexington Ky for a day and then traveling back to Windsor Canada across from Detroit for OMCA!
I have a close, dear friend that started this in this niche market and were as green as the Kentucky Bluegrass all around Lexington! Now a days, that same person has been and is “Workin’ It”. They have built a list of extremely loyal tour planners through their advertising and connections through Group Tour Magazine & Student Group Tour Magazine from both the group tour and student group tour markets. They have stuck with it, made their clients feel special and along the way, took care of these tour planner’s guests/clients. First year in the business they got one Motorcoach trip and felt a great accomplishment. Today, they get that same tour planner that booked that first trip, but now they get upwards to 50 coaches a year from that one tour planners. The tour planner tells us; they “know their guests are always taken care of when we send a coach their way”. They feel the love when they arrive and so does each of the tour guests onboard.
I’d guess in closing, it’s not always the quantity of tour operators you book, but even better, it’s the QUALITY!
