Fun in the Florida sun reaches new heights in Ocala, where guests partake in the fastest, highest and longest zip lines in the entire state.
The Canyons Zip Line & Canopy Tours destination spans 100 acres and features five lakes, walking trails, horseback riding and oodles of zip lines. In fact, there are nine different zips, two rope bridges and a 35-foot repelling wall similar to a rock climbing wall.
The experience begins with checking in, filling out waivers and getting geared up. Two guides are with visitors at all times, doing all of the clipping, sending and receiving.
Next, there’s a practice zip fondly known as ground school. The practice zip takes about 10 minutes.
“When first getting checked in, people can be a little nervous or intimidated,” said owner Bobby Walker. “Then after ground school and the first zip, they get a feel for it and feel more and more comfortable. By the second or third zip, they are pretty happy. The first zip is pretty easy and the fifth zip is the breakout zip. They’re 110 feet high and going over a 12-acre lake. The surprise factor is huge.”
How long to spend really depends on what’s on the must-do list. Tours are offered as brief as 90 minutes, while other tours average three hours. If trying to fit in all of the options, then plan a full day.
Reservations for tours are preferred three to four weeks in advance, though accommodations can be made with just a seven-day notice. There is a gift shop and a food truck on-site. Free motorcoach parking is provided.
